A Redo

So last night I tried to post… I finished it all and then: POOF!  It was gone.  At 7:00 on a Friday night, with a couch full of cuddly boys, there was no way I was starting over.  So here I am posting on a Saturday.  I am also procrastinating a little bit…  Today is a rainy, dreary day, and its chalk full of not so fun things to do.  I just have to get through them, and then we can enjoy a relaxing evening and a date with NetFlix!

My dietetics course ends this week, so I have a final exam to complete.  The good thing is that its a take-home exam.  The bad thing is, my answers are already filling 12 pages!  I need to finish that and move on to chemistry.  Next weekend we head to Vegas for Dave’s venture into the big time of comedy (!!!!), but as soon as we get back, I have a big chemistry exam.  So I need to get ahead in my studying before we leave.  That’s going to be tough to do with a house inspection, and extra chemistry lab, and packing to fit into the week.

Packing is always a challenge for me.  What to bring?  How many pairs of shoes?  Will it be cold?  And this time, its even more of a challenge because my clothes are becoming slightly uncomfortable and not fitting quite right.  I’ve already started with my packing list:

I need start packing this weekend so that I still have time to buy anything I need (in a bigger size!).

As far as clothes fitting, I have not helped matters in the last couple of weeks.  I think I have eaten my weight in chocolate!  Between stress, nervousness, pregnancy cravings, and shear lack of will power, I have been not making very healthy choices.  While I am okay with the baby weight I need to gain, I am less okay with extra weight I gain because I eat a peanut butter cup every time I walk by Dave’s stash.  Pregnancy is not an excuse to eat anything and everything.  An extra 300 calories is all that is required and that’s not a lot.

I have definitely not been feeling as well since I’ve been eating less healthfully, so I am committing myself to becoming more conscious of what and how much I put in my mouth.  I’m not cutting anything out (including chocolate!!), but I am going to try to be more mindful.  Last night for example…  Friday is traditionally pizza night in our house.  But I was genuinely not feeling pizza.  I wanted veggies…and a lot of them!  So while I made Dave his pizza, I made myself the most ginormous salad ever!  I think it was one of my best!

This salad included:

  • spinach
  • tomato
  • cucumber
  • artichokes
  • steamed mixed veggies (peppers, green beans, zucchini, summer squash, onion, and broccoli)
  • steamed broccoli slaw mixed with Laughing Cow cheese

The combination of hot and cold vegetables was wonderful!  It was just what I wanted!  I feel my arteries clearing already!  🙂

Its time to dive into the next question in my final exam.  Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!

So Full!

No, this time it’s not my belly I’m speaking of.  I am taking about my suitcase!  After 2 hours, I am ready to leave for Christmas tomorrow.  Our flight to Seattle isn’t until 4:30 tomorrow, but packing is such a production for me, that I can’t wait until tomorrow to pack.  We want to be able to avoid the check-in line at Christmas, so I was trying to get everything into my carry-on and my backpack.  Given that my sister-in-law is forced to do a couple loads of laundry a day with her twin boys, I figure I’ll be able to wash and rewear a lot.

All this packing got me thinking about our next trip….  I was hoping to go to the Fitbloggin’ Conference in March that some of my favorite Boston bloggers will be attending.  But the conference falls the same week as my spring break from school.  That makes it the perfect time for our annual trip to Belize.  Dave has been going to Belize for years and loved it so much that he even bought some land on an uninhabited island (yep, that’s my guy!)!  He introduced me to the country a few years ago and we’ve gone each year since (except for the year of our honeymoon when we went to Maui instead!).

What an amazing place!  We’ve spent each trip on an island called Caye Caulker.  It’s a snorkelers paradise!  We weren’t snorkelers before, but we are now.  We even got our own gear!

With the exception of the snorkel, fins, and mask, there not a whole lot of complicated packing when it comes to traveling to Belize.  Warm weather clothes don’t take up any room at all.  This is pretty much our wardrobe for the entire week:;

Packing for Christmas, however,  is requiring bulky sweaters, gloves, hats, lots of running layers, and of course… Christmas presents!  Much more space required!  But I think I’ve made it work and will have everything I need.

This will be a great trip.  I can’t wait to meet my baby nephews!  We’ve had a few web cam meetings, but it’s not the same.  I will try to blog a bit while I’m there, but I’ll have to put down a baby in order to do that.  That will be tough to do!  In case I am MIA for a few days, I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas!  I’ll leave you with a few more pictures of heaven before I go!!

In March I’ll be able to show you some pictures of the rainforest and the Mayan Ruins.  I love the island so much, Dave hasn’t been able to show me the interior of the country yet.  It will be adventure, that’s for sure….as most of our travel tends to be!

Goodbye to Summer

This evening Dave and I are off to Cape Cod to spend the weekend with my mom. I was lucky enough to grow up there, and even luckier that my parents still have our house so I can visit anytime. This will be a crazy night for traffic because everyone and their brother is going to be heading out of Boston, and many will be heading right where we are.

Growing up on the Cape, Labor Day marked a very definite end to the summer tourist season. After this weekend, things quiet down. September is actually my favorite month there because it is still summery and warm, but the crowds are gone. It is supposed to be a fantastic weekend and I am looking forward to spending some time on the beach. With the packing, moving, unpacking, and settling in we did this summer, there was no time for the beach.

This weekend is also my last weekend before classes start. On Tuesday, I begin my first 4 prerequisite classes for the Dietetics program I want to do. Biology, Chemistry 1, Medical Terminology, and Intro to Statistics. Fortunately for me, my brother was a science major, and my husband is in business and really good at math. Good thing, because math and science were the subjects where I always had to work the hardest.

Since we will be driving during dinner tonight, I wanted to make sure to get in a post earlier in the day. I went on a good, hilly workout this morning. I definitely felt all 5.6 miles of it. But I can tell my leg is getting better because the recovery time is less and less. I came home and iced.

I stretched really well and will be doing a little foam rolling later!  My refueling consisted of a very tasty protein shake.  Chocolate Muscle Milk (which turned out to be better than I thought it would be!), a banana, and a handful of ice….

…..all blended up in the Magic Bullet.  Does anyone have a Magic Bullet ?  I love mine!

Between the icing and the cold drink I was freezing!  I bundled up and made the back-to-school trip to Staples (all of the school kids in the area had the same idea!). It was fun, and I now have everything I need to start classes.  I love shopping for school supplies.  Weird, huh?

I also packed…. It’s amazing how much I need for a weekend away! Sometimes I think that if I weren’t an active person, packing would be much easier. When you run or workout, there is just a lot of “stuff” you need!

Jack will not be coming….But I have my books, so I can pretend that I am going to study. I have my Garmin for a long run I hope to do on Monday. I have my Polar HRM for inside workouts.  I have my knee sleeves, workout clothes, my ipod, the foam roller…. Most everything is fitness-related! Then, of course, you have the bathing suit, the summer clothes for day, the jeans for the coolish evenings…. It goes on and on!

Are you a light packer or do you bring everything but the kitchen sink?

Only a couple more hours until we leave, so I have my books laid out to study, and sandwiches packed to bring with us. I am more than a little distracted waiting for the call that my sister-in-law has had her babies. But the more studying I get done now, the more on top of things I will feel next week. And I have new highlighters from my trip to Staples….that makes it so much more fun! (Can you read the sarcasm in that?)

See you from the Cape! My pictures should be much more impressive this weekend! 🙂
