Today is the first sunny day since the monsoon that moved through over the weekend. It was great to see the sun. But several schools were canceled for a second day and people are still pumping out their basements. I haven’t see rain like that in a long time! But now we have a week of sunny 50-60 degree weather coming our way. Come on spring!!
Lots of and cooped up people were out running and walking today. Its was great to see, but I have to admit, I saw someone run by and though, “I used to be a runner.” You may have noticed I haven’t been posting much about my workouts lately. All I can say is pregnancy is very humbling. Its hard to imagine that only 2 months ago I ran double digits a couple of times a week. Now, running for 30 minutes is tiring, and most days, I move on over to the the elliptical at that point. Some days, I have more pep and I can run 30, take a breather, and run another 30. But double digits are a thing of the past.
I’m okay with that. All I want is a healthy baby. But noticing changes like this are awe-inspiring. How amazing is it that something the size of a small plum can sap so much energy! I am 11 weeks tomorrow, and aside from some bloat, no one would know I am pregnant. But my body knows and is directing all of its energy to growing a baby instead of powering my runs. Isn’t that incredible! I love biology and find it absolutely amazing that our bodies know just what to do.
All that being said, I will look forward to the exhilaration of completing a long run again….someday. For now, I will settle for my less exciting workouts. Ultimately, I feel very lucky that I haven’t had morning sickness and have been able workout most days.

I had a fun assignment to work on today for my “Careers in Dietetics” course. The assignment is to interview a dietitian and summarize it in a paper. I have never looked forward to school work so much. I had a “phone date” this afternoon with Gina, The CandidRD! I was sorry I had to ask so many prescribed questions because I had such fun just chatting with her. I have always been impressed with Gina and how knowledgeable she is in the information she shares with us on her blog. But now, I am beyond impressed. It takes real guts and real skill to build up a business from the ground up. And she’s doing it! I can’t wait to see where her company goes. Thank you so much, Gina! I so wish you lived closer!

Dinner tonight was my new favorite. Spaghetti squash with Laughing Cow cheese. So simple and so delicious. I love dishes where everything is thrown in one pot. Easy prep and easy clean up. Doesn’t get better than that!
Into this pot went a few giant scoops of spaghetti squash, diced tomatoes, spinach, canned salmon, and 2 wedges of Laughing Cow light swiss….
Five minutes later, you have this!
You can’t tell from the picture, but this is a huge bowl! I love volume eating. Psychologically, I feel so much more satisfied with a big, leaping bowl. But this big, heaping bowl is less than 300 calories. Not to worry…I have a dessert idea in the works. Hopefully I will have something fun to show you tomorrow! 🙂
I DVR’ed 20/20s report on The Bachelor last night, so I am going to spend the evening on the couch with the kitties. Dave is away on business this week so none of “our shows” are allowed. I think this is a safe show.
Goodnight friends! 🙂
I am definitely a volume eater too! So much more satisfying 🙂
Pregnancy is so amazing!! It’s been so neat to watch my friends change and it truly is a miracle. What were some of the first physical signs of pregnancy you noticed – aside from a missed period of course? I know everyone’s different, but I’m always interested just so when my time comes I’ll have an idea of what to look for.
I’m definitely trying your spag. squash dish!! 🙂
I didn’t have very noticeable symptoms at first. I took the test because I was getting nervous that my period never came back ofter going off the pill. I never had real morning sickness, but the exhaustion and the sore boobs set in eventually. I am ready to get my energy back in a couple of weeks!
I’m a volume eater too 🙂
I’m facinated by the baby growing process too. It’s mind boggling!!
Amazing what our bodies can do!
I hope you at least spent some time outside today – it was beautiful.
Glad you enjoyed your interview with Gina – she does have a tremendous amount of knowledge.
i really like the look of the heaping bowl – so colorful too – I too recorded the bachelor special (because I was so tired, I was nodding off)
Just the fact that you are getting out there and exercising is great! Great for you and the baby!
I saw this post about running while pregnant earlier today and thought of you – http://racingwithbabes.blogspot.com/2010/03/running-during-pregnancy.html. She talks about how she had to slow down as well, and felt exhausted sometimes.
Thanks so much. I checked out her blog. Good information!
Nick actually got mad at me for deleting the last 20 minutes of that 20/20 show. He wanted to finish watching!! haha, too funny. I didn’t even mean to delete it, as it was quite entertaining.
I really enjoyed our talk yesterday too Shannon!! I’m so glad it worked out and I hope your paper turns out ok. I really wish you lived closer too. Nick and I will HAVE to visit sometime!!
The spaghetti squash dish looks amazing. I can’t believe it but I have not purchased any spaghetti squash for at least 3 weeks. That’s the longest I have gone in about 6 months. No withdraw symptoms yet…
The human body is truly amazing. I know it’s tough, but please don’t overdo it on your workouts. I know you love to exercise so try to take it easy 🙂
Bodies are so amazing, huh? I think the beginning of pregnancy is in some ways the most interesting because there are so many effects on the body, and like you said- no one would even know you were pregnant without you telling them!
What a neat sounding project. Our UNLV students always did this and I was always called by the students, and then they also always wanted to shadow the RDs at our hospital too, I think it was because we were so close to the campus.
Fun! I would have loved to have shadowed you!
I love Spaghetti Squash… and yours definately looks awesome 🙂 I have always looked at growing a baby inside me as an amazing thing.. and always tell Raymond I am sorry that he will never get to experience it.. I don’t understand why some poeple call it misreable… Would you have more energy after your first trisemester?
I hear the energy come back in the second trimester. Almost there!
